Evie's at home photo shoot

I tried to be creative and take a few pictures of Evie that I saw on Pinterst when she was about 6 weeks old.  Here's what I came up with...

Dr. Daddy awards

Justin recently (June) was honored at DRI for his tremendous work over the past year.  He was the recipient of the "Peter B. Wagner Medal of Excellence for DRI Scholars in the Early Stages of Career Development", which is a HUGE honor.  The woman in the pic is Peter Wagner's wife.  He also received the "DRI Graduate Student Advisor of the Year Award".  To get this award, which is state-wide, your graduate student has to nominate their advisor and write why he's so good...I guess Justin's first grad student thinks quite highly of him!!

I brought both kids up for the awards ceremony and we were the only family present.  Justin's parents were able to be there too.  Just as they were introducing Justin and describing all the super sweet things he's been doing, Jax starts having a breakdown because his Daddy had gotten up and was heading to the front of the room.  Justin just rolled with it and let Jax come up with him and even in one of the professional pictures!

My kiddos

Jax's bun bun

Jax has recently "rediscovered" his bun bun.  Typically, bun bun has to go everywhere with him.

Jax waits for Evie

I went into active labor so incredibly fast that we had to quickly find some friends to drop Jax off with while Justin & I went to the hospital.  All the prior arrangements we had with some of Jax's babysitters didn't pan out because Evie came 4 weeks early.  Poor Jax was dropped off on the curb with nothing but a teddy bear.  No snacks, no extra pull-ups, nothing.  I was screaming during my contractions, but started crying when we had to drop Jax off.  He was so confused & probably pretty freaked out why I was screaming at the top of my lungs!  This is a video our friends Melissa & Jason took after we left.

Genetics

I broke out the 2010 scrapbook when Jax was born and held Evie up to Jax's newborn picture...holy moly!  There's no denying these two are siblings!
And here's a quick comparison between me as a baby and my daughter....crazy.

Evie's first few days at home

Ok, now it's time to start catching up.  Here's a quick look at Evie's first few days at home.  She was slightly jaundice (more noticeably than Jax was), so we did a few sunny sessions outside.  We settled into a routine the first few weeks of Justin and I getting up with Jax in the morning, me packing his lunch while Justin got him dressed.  Then Justin would take Jax to school while Evie and I would stay home and get acquainted and both recover and heal.  My recover has taken a little longer with the second kiddo.

Ride home from the hospital and our first morning at home.  We were so unprepared that while Evie and I were still in the hospital, Justin had to run to Walmart and buy a bouncer chair and go to the storage unit and dig out our pack 'n play.  Thankfully I had already got a carseat, but when I asked Justin to grab a newborn-sized pair of jammies out of Evie's closet to wear home from the hospital, he brought a 3-6 month sized onies....Daddies, sheesh!  Evie had to wear a little nightgown the hospital gave us home!  :o)
