A first

I'm in Albuquerque, NM this week for a business trip. This is my first time here and therefore was happy when a former colleague I worked with in Carson City invited me and another Carsonite up to his house in the eastern mountains of Albuquerque for a short hike after work yesterday. It was a beautiful drive up into the mountains...so green for the desert. But I guess Tahoe is pretty green back in Nevada too. The hike was great, we left straight from his front door and ended up in National Forest. (No, I didn't get a picture of the sign, which I'm pretty bummed about. The other Carsonite colleague with me ended up getting rather sick from something he ate and we had to b-line is straight back to the hotel.

Getting to my point for this blog--the other members of our team were out to dinner by the time we got back, so I walked from the hotel to the nearby strip of restaurants and entered the Jasmine Thai and Sushi House and asked for a table for one. Kinda strange, but it was a pleasant dinner. Yes, the sushi was horrible and they brought me the wrong coconut chicken soup, but whatever. I'm so used to going to dinner for the social aspect of it, so this was an experience all of its own and a little humbling too. It made me miss Justin!

Shoulda' took a left turn at Albuquerque!

Birthday in Carmel

W-O-W! What a weekend! Man, did Justin and I ever need this weekend. So nice. Beautiful part of the country to ride in. We logged 805 miles on the Harley this weekend, and my tushy feels it! Carmel is the perfect place for a romantic weekend...quint town on a hill, walk to shops, restaurants, art galleries, and the beach. There are little nooks with shops tucked back in courtyard and flowers...flowers everywhere! Beautiful landscaping in town and almost each and every shop and hotel had beautiful porch boxes and vines of flowers. Very classy.

Only but once a year

Showing off two gifts I got for my birthday. Krista got me the most stylish hammer/multi-tool ever and Justin came home with a bunch of beautiful roses!
Justin and I are off to the coast for a long weekend to celebrate my numerical advance in life. See ya in a few!

The next generation

I was looking at some old pictures recently and it made me giggle. Below is a picture of my parent's wedding party, and beneath it is Justin and I's. Mom & Dad's maid-of-honor (in the dark blue) is Aunt Janet--who married Ted (3rd from the end), and they had a daughter, Lacey...who was one of my bridesmaids (on the far left). AND, the youngest flower girl in my parent's wedding (in the reddish/burgendy) is my Dad's sister, Elaine...who is now married and both of her daughters (Sadie & Ella) were my flower girls!
I love family!

No two alike

Last week I was back in Dixie Valley for some fieldwork. There are no two days alike out there, it's really insane! Cold, windy & snowing VS. hot, sunny and calm. And these were only 2 days apart.
VS.

She would be so proud

Grandma Green would be so proud of me.
Because I do not have my family close to me like Grandma did, I cut Grandma's annual Easter cinnamon roll recipe in half...and it still made FOUR pans!

Drags

Last weekend were the drag races in Las Vegas. Justin's friend & mentor, Dr. Rick Allan came into town especially for the drags. Here's the highlight reel!

Vertigo

Have you ever experienced vertigo? Up until last week it was only something I felt during a crazy snow day on the slopes...when I thought I was moving down the hill on my snowboard, but really wasn't because of all the blowing snow. The last week has provided me with the opportunity to experience vertigo on a night & day basis...starting intermittently, then becoming mostly constant. I'm now in Denver for a training class. Last night I finally went to get checked out at a walk-in clinic. Yup, more than likely an infection of the inner ear that throws off my sense of balance making me feel dizzy and nauseous. Fun. Fix = over-the-counter motion-sickness pills until the infection works it's way out. Hopefully my world will stop spinning soon...

Early birthday

Justin and I made it to Las Vegas on Thursday night. Friday we made the rounds around town. First we ate at the awesome Bagel Cafe for breakfast, then stopped by the jewelry store and had our wedding rings cleaned. Wow, didn't know mine needed cleaned until I saw it all fresh and shiny! Next we stopped by the lab and saw Ken and Deb for a little bit. Always a good time to hang out with them.
And then it was onto the hospital to visit Grandma Collen and Papa Jack. Grandma is doing better, didn't know when she would be able to go back home. Justin showed him pictures of his Harley and Papa Jack was just so excited. Although both Grandma and Papa Jack said they would be more excited if we were having a baby! Yikes!
After dinner, Justin brought me a small box wrapped oh so nicely...

And this is what was in it! My second wedding ring. I had told Justin I would like to have a second wedding band that was just a simple band to wear in the field. These last few weeks have made me nervous having Great Grandma June's diamond in Dixie Valley. Now I can have piece of mind, and still be wearing a wedding band.

Here's me showing off all my bling! Thank you Justin, I love it! And thank you to my very talented father-in-law for crafting such a lovely ring!

Spring field day

Once each quarter I do my well runs. One day in Carson City, one in Reno/Sparks. Yesterday was my Reno/Sparks day...you can tell I'm getting used to Carson because the traffic and all the people in Reno were about to make me go nuts! It was a beautiful sunny warm day though.
And proof that desert plants do have buds and turn green in the spring. Pretty plant, eh?
