Continuing on with the Las Vegas trip...Justin and I went to Hoover Dam. Amazing feat of engineering!

Then we got all done up and went to a show at Treasure Island that Justin's Dad got us free tickets to! Cirque de Sol, it was called Mystere.

First drive to Vegas

Last Friday Justin, Willy and I drove down to Las Vegas to spend a weekend with Justin's parents before continuing on to Mesquite, NV for the annual NWRA conference (Nevada Water Resources Association). Here's a few pics of the drive down.

Ahh, Nevada. Brothels in the middle of the desert. Notice the sign that says 'closed for remodeling'!

Snow thrashing

Just a funny picture taken after Justin threw me in the snow a few weeks ago while snowshoeing out of his field site.

Biking the highway

They are building a bypass around Carson City to reduce all the traffic downtown. The first phase of this opens up tomorrow, but last Saturday they opened it up to the public to walk/run/bike it. Justin, Willy and I went to check it out.
Looking north.

Looking south.

Training in Sacramento

I drove over to Sacramento on Sunday evening, missing the end of the Super Bowl, to attend a USGS sponsored "Modeling Hydrofacies with TProGS" class. I won't explain unless asked to. But an interesting thing is that our accomidations are at the Delta King...a restored riverboat. It was built in 1927 and has served many purposes and been many places, including the bottom of San Fransisco Bay for about 18 months. I tried to take some pictures of the Delta King this morning, but my batteries died before I could get the first pictures off. I hope to remeady this tonight.

Go fly a kite!

Saturday was a very windy day in Carson City, NV...like so many of them are. While at Costco (I had to buy bulk popcorn, as I am in charge of the popcorn fund at work), Justin and I found some cool kites for only $10! So we went to a local park, assembled and had a blast. I don't think I've even sucessfully flown a kite before!

USGS polar bear

Over the last few months the USGS held a photo contest within each of our different disciplines. The winners were selected published last week. Oh, how I wish I could be working on the same project as this lady!!
